I’ve had a few publications recently, all quite different, but I’m chuffed with each one…
I absolutely love National Flash Fiction Day and the Flash Flood – it’s a whole day of flash fiction and a real treat for those of us who enjoy reading small but mighty stories! They are all published on the Flash Flood Journal and shared to Bluesky throughout the day. Read my contribution ‘Still, the Silence Comes’. Be warned, it’s a sad, lonely little story but not without heart.
The Island Games have begun where islands across the globe gather to compete in sports. Orkney is hosting this year’s games, and to celebrate this, local author Gabrielle Barnby asked islanders to create pieces of writing inspired by island life. Read my folkloric piece, ‘A Shimmering of Orkney Magic’. There is also a book of everyone’s contributions called Island Voices with artworks by local artists. If you’re in Orkney, you can find a copy at Orkney Library. Also, good luck to everyone competing!
I’ve had two poems published in Oatleaf Poetry Magazine. Read ‘Gleam’ and ‘A Bird to Soar’. Gleam tackles anxiety and A Bird to Soar is about the isolation of illness and how art and writing can help. The first half of this year I really threw myself into writing poetry and found it incredibly therapeutic.
