I’m overjoyed that Raven is now in a book!
The beautiful Salt Songs is published by The George Mackay Brown Fellowship. In 2021, they set up the Words Into Music project to mark the centenary of George Mackay Brown’s birth. Folk were encouraged to write pieces inspired by the famous Orkney writer, and then composers were encouraged to turn some of those pieces into music. I was lucky enough to have Kathie Touin transform Raven into a gorgeous composition. Now, it’s in print too.
Raven was inspired by a section of the poem ‘The Scottish Bestiary’ where GMB writes about five animals: Moth, Lobster, Whale, Eagle and, the one that really captured my imagination, Raven. It was my first piece of published fiction and I’m delighted to see it soar in this gorgeous book!

Salt Songs is available on The GMB Fellowship’s website.
